DCASE Applied & Industrial Research (AIR) Workshop

Applied & Industrial Research (AIR) is a new one-day workshop co-located with DCASE 2026, taking place 27 October 2026 at MIT, Boston, USA — the day before the main DCASE workshop.

DCASE — Detection and Classification of Acoustic Scenes and Events is the leading forum for research on computational audio analysis: acoustic scene classification, sound event detection and localization, audio tagging, anomalous sound detection, audio captioning, and related tasks. While the main workshop focuses on scientific advances and benchmark-driven research, AIR provides a dedicated venue for discussing how DCASE research is being deployed and used in practice.

AIR brings together researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry who are building, deploying, or evaluating real-world audio and acoustic AI systems. If you've taken a DCASE-related method from research into real-world application, or encountered challenges that benchmarks don't capture, this is the venue to share that experience.

Target Audience

Open to industry teams working on DCASE problems, academic labs demonstrating real-world applications, and researchers interested in industrial use cases.

Motivation and goals

The DCASE Applied & Industrial Research (AIR) Workshop is a dedicated stage to show industrial and applied applications and their research problems. Expect working demos, applied research talks, and an honest panel — technical substance, not marketing.

While DCASE has become the leading venue for sound event detection, acoustic scene analysis, and related tasks, there is currently no dedicated forum for discussing deployment, engineering trade-offs, industrial applications, and lessons learned from real-world systems. AIR addresses this gap.

AIR is intended to become the place within DCASE where research meets deployment. Its goal is to showcase how DCASE technologies are used in practice, expose the technical challenges that arise outside benchmark datasets, and create new collaborations between academia and industry. AIR emphasizes practical experience, working systems, and open discussion of the problems that still need solving. Expected outcomes include:

  • Strengthen academia–industry interactions
  • Attract new industrial participants
  • Identify future DCASE task directions
  • Encourage collaborations and sponsorship

We especially encourage contributions that expose engineering trade-offs or identify unsolved problems for the community.
